The SmileBot is robot that aims to ease people’s tension whilst they are waiting outside a medical treatment room (doctors surgery). The SmileBot moves through waiting rooms looking for human faces. Upon identifying one the bot pauses and smiles through its onboard screen. Using further facial recognition library, if the SmileBot recognises that the human has smiled back, it acknowledges the exchange and makes a positive noise. Upon capturing 6 smiles in the waiting room the SmileBot carries out a dance for the now captive audience. In this way the accumulation of smiles leads to a shared result and boosts the mood in the health centre.

This project involved hacking a smart phone robot (Romo) and affective computing research.

Space Pool

During a summer internship this year, I worked with Two Big Ears on a project combing the features of smart-phone embedded motion sensors, the Oculus Rift and 3Dception (audio) to provide players with interesting experiences. I took it as a research project, exploring how to make players feel more immersive in the games.

Space Pool is a demo from three different prototypes.

Dancing Tree

Dancing Tree is a project of visualising the movement of tree branches as generative art using Arduino and Processing.

CircleU is my undergraduate dissertation project, which was done with my other three fantastic teammates in 2013. It is a campus-based android social App with scenarios implied in UI design. As the only designer in our team, I did all the design jobs, such as product concept, UI layout, and visual design.

XMU Roaming System

XMU Roaming System is a virtual reality community of Xiamen University, which is definitely no.1 beautiful campus in China! :P

It was a long-term project, over 20 people had engaged in it through the whole process. As the team leader, my main job was project management, and did material modelling, rendering for some areas.

Run! Sasa!

Flash game

Three of us made this very interesting flash game, which has an unusual way of playing, back to 2010. The game is about a little creature tries to escape from a bad king. He has to overcome all the difficulties on his way, such as greedy snakes, suddenly dropped toothed wheels, and funny guys who have sharp heads. The player use mouse to draw the roads and shields for the little creature, and use keyboard to make him move around.

Intro Animation for a Game

This is an intro animation for game "难知如阴".

The game is a project of our summer placement, 2012. We had 12 people on our team, produced a very interesting strategy 3D game. We used an advanced motion capture device to generate the initial animation, and then made detailed actions. The modelling and materials were good, too.

I did all the after effects to make it looks cooler.

Iridescent(part 3)

non-linear editing

This was the third part of the whole clip (2011). It was about a boy who felt frustrated about his life, but finally snapped out of it. We did the storyboard, filming, and editing all by ourself.

Music: Linkin Park - Iridescent;  Director&Editing: 李莎(Sha LI); Filming: 孙礼炯,肖夏; Actor: 陈力琪

Exhibition: acer Ultrabook

Exhibition: acer Ultrabook

exhibition design

It is a fully open space, with a reception, a meeting area(1 table and 4 chairs), and four interaction areas(12 Ultrabooks). The hollow out design allows audience to try the models either inside the exhibition area or from outside, and it expands the space visually. The main material is 90% opaque matt white, with volume light inside the logo (logo's colour and font follow the design rules of the company). The bevel and legless design trying to set off the features of the Ultrabook, which are light, neat, fast, and innovative. The design tool was Maya.

The Parachute

The Parachute

VI design

This set was designed for a degree show, School of Software, XMU. The idea was about graduates landing with their gifts. The labels on the parachute were the skills we got through four years study. The ape hat stood for our career: IT, for the similar pronunciation in Chinese.

The scheme included poster, wall paper, banner, invitation, registration form, signs, and hand belt.

VI design

It was designed for recycling bins. The design tried to help users be clear about recycle items more easily. The concept was simple, there was a group of cats living on collecting rubbish, human beings’ doing recycling in a proper way could help them do a good job.

Mr.Paper, Boss Picky

Mr.Paper, Boss Picky

character design

In the course, Character Design, I made two figures, Mr. Paper Bag, and Boss Picky.

Mr. Paper Bag is a detective, fighting with bad guys. To others, he is not serious at all, but has a warm heart, who is always ready to help.

Boss Picky is running his own IT company. He has a small body but a strong brain. He is well-known for his very dramatic behaviours and bad temper.

Summer Dream

Summer Dream

UI design

Summer Dream was designed for "Phone" function on android phone. One feature was merging “dial”, “contact”, and “history” into one panel, so that users did not have to switch pages from one function to another. Another feature was slider control, sliding up to answer, and sliding down to ignore. The aim was to avoid cases where users touched the button by mistake.

Odesign Logo

This is a Flash animation for 'Odesign' logo.

I met two lovely girls in Taipei when I was an exchange student there in Spring, 2012. We formed this "studio" in one course. It was really awesome experience.

I made this animation while the idea of the logo came from all of us.
